Marketplace Shipping Coverage & International Policy
Effective Date: May 20, 2026 | Last Updated: May 20, 2026
1. Where we ship today
The Strictly Surf Community Marketplace currently ships to the following destinations:
- United States
- Canada — Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU); buyer pays any GST/HST/PST to the carrier on delivery.
All orders are priced and settled in U.S. dollars (USD). Your bank may convert to your local currency at its standard rate.
2. Going global — countries on the expansion roadmap
We are an aspirationally global brand and we are actively expanding country-by-country. Adding a destination requires tax registration, carrier verification, and (where applicable) marketplace VAT/GST/OSS collection. Countries currently on the waitlist:
- United Kingdom — pending UK VAT registration.
- Australia — pending GST registration.
- Austria — pending EU OSS registration.
- Belgium — pending EU OSS registration.
- Germany — pending EU OSS registration.
- Denmark — pending EU OSS registration.
- Spain — pending EU OSS registration.
- Finland — pending EU OSS registration.
- France — pending EU OSS registration.
- Ireland — pending EU OSS registration.
- Italy — pending EU OSS registration.
- Netherlands — pending EU OSS registration.
- Poland — pending EU OSS registration.
- Portugal — pending EU OSS registration.
- Sweden — pending EU OSS registration.
Live in a country we haven't reached yet? Join the waitlist at /marketplace/coming-soon and we will email you the moment we launch in your country.
3. Customs, duties, and the importer of record
For all destinations outside the United States, the buyer is the importer of record under Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) terms. This means:
- Any import duties, taxes, brokerage fees, or other government charges levied by the destination country are the buyer's responsibility.
- These charges are not collected at checkout. The carrier or local customs authority will bill the buyer directly upon delivery, before the parcel can be released.
- For shipments to Canada we file a customs declaration under 15 CFR §30.36 (NOEEI 30.36) and identify the goods with the appropriate HS tariff classification at purchase time.
4. Sanctioned destinations
We do not ship to destinations subject to U.S. economic sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Orders to these destinations are refused at checkout and no rate quote is provided. Currently sanctioned:
- Belarus
- Cuba
- Iran
- North Korea
- Myanmar (Burma)
- Russia
- Syria
- Venezuela
This list reflects U.S. sanctions policy as of the “last updated” date above and may change. Buyers and sellers are responsible for understanding their own jurisdiction's applicable sanctions and export-control rules.
5. Carriers and rates
Live carrier rates are sourced from the lane-eligible carrier accounts connected through our shipping partner Shippo. The platform passes the rate through at cost; we do not surcharge above the carrier rate we pay. If live rates are temporarily unavailable, checkout asks you to retry rather than charging an estimate we cannot honor.
Address validation runs at checkout. Incomplete or unverifiable addresses may be rejected before payment is authorized.
6. Currency and tax display
All marketplace prices and shipping are displayed and charged in USD. Sales tax on U.S. transactions is calculated by Stripe Tax on the actually-charged amount and includes the shipping line item where the destination state taxes shipping. For Canada, no GST/HST is collected at checkout — duty and tax are paid to the carrier on delivery (see Section 3). Multi-currency display is on the roadmap and not yet supported.
7. Sellers shipping internationally
Sellers who enable international shipping on a listing must:
- Acknowledge the customs declaration and return-shipping responsibility at listing time.
- Use carrier-calculated shipping (free / flat rate / local pickup modes are not available for international orders).
- Ship from a verified U.S.-based origin address (only U.S. sellers are supported today).
Sellers can update or revoke international shipping for any of their listings at any time from the listing-edit screen.
8. Questions or appeals
If you believe a destination is being incorrectly classified, or you need to request an exemption review (for example, for sanctions edge cases governed by a general license), contact strictlysurfli@gmail.com.
This coverage list is the public summary of our internal destination-policy registry. The full per-country status, tax treatment, and unlock blockers are documented for builders at docs/systems/marketplace/shipping/international-policy.md in our source repository.
